“He Is Our GOD!”

Daniel 3:29 Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.

This account of the three Hebrew children in Daniel chapter three has always been one of my favorites! I can’t help but get excited every time I picture those three young men impowered by the all-sufficient grace of our God, standing alone before a condemning multitude and a wrathful king. Can you imagine the thoughts that must have raced through their minds, as they were ushered violently before the furious King Nebuchadnezzar?

Daniel 3:13-14 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, had just blatantly defied a direct command from the king, and amazingly enough he was for some unknown reason giving them a second chance. They apparently did not even wait for the second stanza to start, before they answered. The Holy Ghost of God, no doubt, filled these young men’s hearts with courage and their tongues with boldness as they looked steadfastly into the king’s eyes and spoke those powerful words. These were not the defiant words of three rebellious teenage boys, who were demanding “their rights.” These were God inspired words coming from the anointed lips of three young servants of the King of kings and Lord of lords, who knew their King and loved their God with all their hearts, minds and souls!

Daniel 3:16-17 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

Could they, as they saw the fearful, twisted look on the king’s face and heard his next command, have been thinking, did we just say what I think we just said! They were after all, just flesh and blood like you and me and they had no idea what was about to happen.

Daniel 3:19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

There is no way of knowing how hot that fire really was, but we do know it was so hot, that it killed the men who had to get close enough to it to throw in Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego.

However, it is the next words from king Nebuchadnezzar that thrill my soul!

Daniel 3:24-25 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

God did not only deliver His faithful servants from what looked like a certain horrible death, He walked with them through the flames, every step of the way! This Mighty God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego has not changed! He is OUR MIGHTY GOD OF TODAY! He is the same yesterday, today and forever and His powerful promises are still TRUE!

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
